Meet Caitlin Coyle: LTSS Center Researcher

By Lisa Watts

Understanding aging-related growth and change is Coyle’s life’s work.

Caitlin Coyle has experienced the paradox of being considered young, for a gerontologist, but feeling old at heart.

“Understanding how to maximize the growth and change that comes with age is my life’s work,” says Coyle.

After earning a gerontology doctorate at UMass Boston, Coyle completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University’s School of Public Health, then returned as a research fellow at UMass Boston’s Center for Social and Demographic Research on Aging. In August 2022, Coyle was named the center’s director. Her work combines traditional social science with applied community engaged research.

“I value the multidisciplinary nature of gerontology,” says Coyle, who has focused her recent research on social isolation interventions and developing equitable environments that ensure the opportunity to age well is available to all.
