The Well-Being Insurance for Seniors to be at Home (WISH) Act is a proposed statute led by Congressman Thomas R. Suozzi of New York. The proposal is modeled on work by the Urban Institute and others to create a Federal Catastrophic Long-Term Care Insurance Program. The legislation aims to create a public-private partnership to provide long-term care insurance for older adults so they can mostly age at home instead of having to spend down their life savings and often enter Medicaid-funded nursing homes.
Discussion will include an overview of the merits of this proposal, eligibility and benefits, the deductible or waiting period, financing and relationship to Medicaid, and the private market for long-term care insurance.
LTSS Center Co-Director Marc Cohen is scheduled to participate on the panel.
