The National Academy of Medicine (NAM) will host this virtual scientific symposium. For the first time ever, the event is free to attend and will be held entirely online.

The symposium will open with a keynote address by Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The address, “Crises, Fast and Slow,” will reflect on COVID-19, climate change, and the imperative for global collaboration. The first session will explore the state of the COVID-19 pandemic, including virus emergence, the impact of the pandemic, and U.S. and global preparedness and response. The second session will explore the environmental, societal, and individual impacts of climate change on human health. The meeting will also include the President’s Forum, which will address the role of science and policymaking in responding to global crises.
