A MESSAGE FROM OUR CO-DIRECTORS
As this 2019 Annual Report shows, the LTSS Center has made a good start toward fulfilling the aspirations of our founders: to become one of the largest and most effective LTSS research centers in the field of long-term services and supports (LTSS).
SIX AREAS OF WORK
The LTSS Center conducts qualitative and quantitative research in 6 key areas that directly
affect the lives of older adults in the United States and around the globe.
SPONSORED RESEARCH
We invite you to review findings from six projects that stood out for us in 2019.
Exploring Financing Options For Services in Affordable Senior Housing
We completed work that could help make the promising housing plus services model more widely available to older housing residents with low incomes.
Evaluation of “Right Care, Right Place, Right Time”
We found that hospital admission, emergency department admission, and hospital readmission rates were positively affected by a Massachusetts-based housing plus services program.
Managing Workforce Ageism
We evaluated the effectiveness of a training program designed help staff of aging services organizations recognize and change their ageist attitudes.
Climate Change and Older Adults
We laid important groundwork for future research exploring how to alleviate the physical, social, and emotional damage that vulnerable older adults experience due to climate change.
Enhancing the Role of Home Care Workers
We laid an important foundation for future research by exploring the intriguing possibility of creating an enhanced role for home care workers.
Geriatric Substance Abuse Recovery Program
We discovered that a substance abuse recovery program offered in a post-care acute setting improved rehabilitation outcomes for participants.
THOUGHT LEADERSHIP
Our goal is to translate research findings into policy and practice so our work will help improve the lives of older Americans. During 2019, we worked toward this goal by sharing our expertise with policy makers, practitioners, and research colleagues in 5 areas:
- Leadership Development
- LTSS Financing
- Caregiving for People Living with Dementia
- Peer-Reviewed Research
- Stakeholder Outreach
LOOKING AHEAD TO 2020
As 2020 dawns, the LTSS Center is excited to embark on several new initiatives, including:
-
- Expanding our work with Community Catalyst
- Engaging with consumers
- Working to influence policy and practice at the state and local level
